Over the weekend, everyone associated with the Kansas City Chiefs, the NFL, and the sports world in general had something to say about the tragic death of Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher. Some people debated over whether or not the head injuries and concussions that Belcher suffered during his career played a role in his decision to murder his girlfriend and then take his own life. Others wondered whether the Chiefs should have postponed yesterday's home game against the Carolina Panthers. But, Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn took a different approach to the whole thing. And, what he had to say during his post-game press conference after the Chiefs victory yesterday ended up being one of the most profound things we heard all weekend.

"It was tough," Quinn told reporters. "I think it was an eerie feeling after a win because you don't think that you can win in this situation. The one thing people can hopefully try to take away, I guess, is the relationships they have with people. I know when it happened, I was sitting and, in my head, thinking what I could have done differently. When you ask someone how they are doing, do you really mean it? When you answer someone back how you are doing, are you really telling the truth? We live in a society of social networks, with Twitter pages and Facebook, and that's fine, but we have contact with our work associates, our family, our friends, and it seems like half the time we are more preoccupied with our phone and other things going on instead of the actual relationships that we have right in front of us. Hopefully people can learn from this and try to actually help if someone is battling something deeper on the inside than what they are revealing on a day-to-day basis."

Wow. Quinn also went on to talk about how the Chiefs players are banding together to start a fund for Belcher's 3-month-old daughter. But, it was his take on relationships that really rang true and stayed with a lot of people well after Arrowhead Stadium emptied out last night. Way to make a big statement, Brady. It's definitely something that more people need to think about and talk about in the aftermath of Jovan Belcher's death.
