ExxonMobil Says Diesel Will Surpass Gasoline by 2020

Hey America, this is what the rest of the world looks like.

Global demand for diesel fuel has been rising sharply, especially in the passenger vehicle segment, in recent years, and ExxonMobil has crunched the numbers and predicted that by 2020 diesel will be the fuel of choice. While that sounds quite odd to the average American, we've been blinded by our '80s-era prejudices against diesel.

When we recommend diesel cars, people usually say "but aren't diesels smelly/dirty/inefficient/cancerous/scrotum-shrivelling?" In reality, modern turbodiesels are efficient, clean, very torquey and make far more sense for the average passenger car than a gasoline engine.

We wonder, does ExxonMobile think the trend in America is turning around? We do.
