All things considered, Jason Kidd is getting off pretty easy after getting arrested last summer for DWI. The new Brooklyn Nets head coach could have faced heavy fines and even jail time for running his Cadillac SUV into a utility pole in Long Island, N.Y. almost exactly one year ago. But instead, he got a slap on the wrist today when he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor drunken driving charge and agreed to be placed on interim probation.

However, Kidd isn't completely off the hook. In order for a court to eventually drop his charge from a DWI all the way down to a driving while ability impaired violation, he will be required to perform community service by talking to high school students in Long Island about the dangers of drinking and driving sometime between now and September 30. And he will also likely face some kind of penalty from the NBA, either in the form of a fine or a suspension.

But like we said, all things considered, he's getting off pretty easy. So we hope J-Kidd learned his lesson here. Because next time, he won't be so lucky.
