According to the NHTSA testing, the Tesla Model S is the safest car ever made. Somehow, it earned 5.4 stars by receiving perfect ratings in every category. "NHTSA does not publish a star rating above 5, however safety levels better than 5 stars are captured in the overall Vehicle Safety Score (VSS) provided to manufacturers, where the Model S achieved a new combined record of 5.4 stars," read a statement on the Tesla website. Apparently, not having a gas engine under the hood allows Tesla to create a "much longer crumple zone to absorb a high speed impact." Sounds like some science is involved so we'll just leave it at that. The point is, while the car isn't imperveous to all damage, it is the closest you can get.
