Professional athletes continue to find completely ridiculous ways to injure themselves. And the latest bizarre injury is a real doozy.

Last Saturday, AC Milan defender Philippe Mexes checked himself out of a match against Genoa due to a slight pain that he was feeling in his left eye. Doctors checked it out later and diagnosed him with a condition called central serous retinopathy. And what's the cause of central serous retinopathy? Exposure to ultraviolet lights like the ones that are typically used in tanning beds. That's right. Mexes apparently injured himself in a tanning bed.

The good news is that the injury might not be all that serious. Doctors advised Mexes to rest, and he's going to be reevaluated on Friday. But this is definitely one of the most embarrassing ways for an athlete to injure himself, right? It's just one more reason why you should just say no (!) when it comes to tanning.
