Brooklyn Nets Interested in Signing Jason Collins to a 10-Day Contract

He could make history very soon.

The Brooklyn Nets worked out Jason Collins this week in Los Angeles and the team is giving strong consideration to signing Collins to a 10-day contract that would make him the NBA's first active openly gay player.

No final decision has been made, but sources say that Collins was auditioned by the team in a private workout earlier this week to where his game and conditioning are at after last playing with Washington and Boston last year. Nets general manager Billy King did not attend the workout, but said he was told Collins is "in shape."

Collins could provide some solid post defense for Brooklyn and a good veteran presence on a team lacking size. Brooklyn has just Kevin Garnett and Andray Blatche as active big men on the roster currently after trading Reggie Evans during the trade deadline.
