Buses are great for exposing yourself to the smell of urine, ensuring you'll be late for work, and apparently for catching distracted drivers. Police in two cities in British Columbia—Saanich and Victoria—have announced a new campaign to combat distracting driving. As part of it, police officers will use the higher vantage points provided by buses to look out for distracted drivers. If they see someone texting while driving, for example, they'll radio another cop who's driving behind the bus.
The new campaign has already generated 57 tickets in its first five days. Each ticket costs $167, so even if the effort isn't enough to discourage distracted driving, it'll certainly bring more money into the cities. We suggest Saanich and Victoria use that extra guap to make its buses smell less like urine.
