First Mercedes dropped the A45 AMG, with its 355 hp 2.0L I4, then VW announced a 270 hp 2.0L I4 in the Golf R Evo. In addition to that, there's a new WRX rocking a 305 hp four-pot, the new Golf R's 296 hp I4, a 300-ish hp EcoBoost I4 Mustang in the works, and Kia might make the 315 hp Stinger GT4.

The top end power war might be starting to wind down, with many new cars today having similar outputs to their predecessors, but we're seeing a new, smaller war starting, and Porsche is jumping right in. The next generation Boxster and Cayman are going to feature a four cylinder engine that produces a whopping 395 horsepower. That's right, a tiny Porsche's four pot is almost as powerful as a V8 Mustang.

No word yet on when this downsized and uprated beast will drop.
