We've heard a lot of horror stories about people doing really dumb things while attempting to jump start their cars. However, most of those stories—actually, make that all of those stories—have involved people jump starting their cars improperly and causing small fires…or worse. But a Jefferson, Ind. man just provided us with a much different kind of horror story involving a jump start gone awry.
On Wednesday, 24-year-old Wyatt Thompson was sitting on the side of the road with a dead battery when a cop drove by. Thompson needed a jump start, so he flagged the officer down and asked him to give him a hand. And the officer agreed to help. The only problem? Thompson allegedly stole the car that he was trying to jump from a car lot earlier this month. He had reportedly asked to take it for a test drive and then never brought it back. So within minutes of flagging the officer down, Thompson was sitting in the back of the cop's car under arrest.
Let this be a lesson to everyone: If you ever steal a car and need a jump start, don't ask a cop! Or better yet, just don't steal a car. Because one way or another, it's probably not going to end well.
