Watch a Carjacker Cling to the Side of a Speeding Taxi After a Botched Robbery (Video)

A Bronx man tried to carjack a taxi driver earlier this week. He ended up going for a ride on the side of the car and put his life in danger.

Earlier this week, a 27-year-old Bronx man named Matthew McCorkle allegedly tried to carjack a taxi. And yet, he is the one who is lucky to be alive after the alleged robbery went terribly awry.

At approximately 2 a.m. on Monday morning, McCorkle reportedly tried to take a taxi from a driver near the Bruckner Expressway in the Bronx. But the driver was able to take off before McCorkle could work his way into the vehicle. McCorkle didn't give up, though. Rather than letting the taxi go, he clung to the side of it and held on tightly as the taxi driver hit speeds of up to 70 mph on the Expressway. And fellow driver Vlane Carter was able to capture the wild video that you see above, which features McCorkle hanging onto the side of the taxi for dear life and nearly falling off of it on several different occasions. Had he fallen off, he likely would have either died as a result of the impact or been hit by another car.

Fortunately, McCorkle didn't fall off and injure himself. But he did eventually jump off the taxi when the driver slowed down and attempt to carjack another vehicle. He was unsuccessful, though, and a short time later, police showed up on the scene and placed him under arrest. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, robbery, and grand larceny. But after watching the video of him clinging to the side of the cab, it's clear that his night could have been much, much worse than it was.
