Land Rover has been hard at work to make the front of its newest Discovery models virtually invisible – ‘virtually’ being the key word here. The automaker’s new Discovery Vision Concept, which is set to be revealed at this month's New York International Auto Show, will feature grille-mounted cameras that allow occupants a closer look at the terrain ahead and below by effectively looking through the dashboard. Yes, you heard right.
The new technology, dubbed Transparent Bonnet by its engineers, creates a head-up video feed that mimics a transparent hood in order to assist motorists in adverse driving situations. Front-view terrain cameras are nothing new to the luxury off-roader marketplace; in fact the current Range Rover Autobiography comes fitted with one. But judging by the press photo above, this system is a bit more complicated than a camera bolted to a bumper.
