We love the Mercedes G-Wagen; it's like a luxurious Land Rover Defender for people who don't want to buy their mechanic a new home. We want Mercedes to keep updating it, but we get a little worried every time it's about to be updated because we'd hate for it to lose its boxy, rugged demeanor.
Luckily Mercedes is keen on keeping the look of the current G-Wagen while simply widening it for greater stability and interior space when the new generation hits the streets in 2017. In addition to the width, Mercedes is working to cut a whopping 440 lbs from the G-Class' bulk. That would make a huge difference when it comes to fuel economy and performance.
The exterior will be mostly familiar, but may steal a design element or two from the Ener-G-Force Concept (shown). On the inside, much of the interior will be drawn from the surprisingly beautiful C-Class. Sounds good to us.
