IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING: Cosworth to Debut Tuned FR-S/BRZ This Year

The BRZ and FR-S only have one real problem, and it's the power.

We really quite like the Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S, but the FA-20 engine really leaves something to be desired. The power is acceptable, but there's just not enough torque, and that weird dip in the torque curve is irritating as hell. We all assumed that a turbocharged BRZ STI was going to happen at some point, but it's just become more and more clear that Subaru isn't listening to the cries for more.

We've been hoping to see Cosworth tackle the car since it dropped, and when we were on the Cosworth website for unrelated reasons we noticed that the famed English tuner quietly put this teaser up on the front page with the following text:

"At Cosworth our ability to engineer and manufacture complete engine systems for our customers is a key capability. From OEM automotive manufacturers to top flight racing teams - our ability to do the whole job and deliver a robust, reliable solution is paramount.
For 2014 we are bringing this to our Performance Parts range - providing complete performance upgrade kits that have been designed and validated as a system to provide guaranteed levels of power and reliability.
First for the Cosworth Power Package treatment ..? the FA20 engine platform ... coming soon."

We can't wait to see this machine in full.
