Sometimes, the NFL thinks they can sneakily slip something by their fans. Their auction for a game-worn Mark Sanchez jersey from November 22, 2012 was one such instance.

To most, that date may be relatively meaningless. However, Jets fans remember it all too well; it’s the infamous “Butt Fumble” game, in which a sliding Sanchez smacked his face on the rear end of guard Brandon Moore, losing the ball and watching helplessly as the Patriots ran it back for a touchdown.

One Jets fan spotted the auction page, though, and upon realizing the jersey's significance decided he needed to drop 820 of his hard-earned dollars on it immediately. He says that he did it because “there's no way I could let it get in the hands of an anti-fan or something of that manner to be shoved in our face.”

The irony of him saying “shoved in our face” is not lost on us.

As for what he’ll be doing with it after spending so much money on the jersey of a player who: 1. Stinks; and 2. Isn’t on the team anymore? He said:

“For now I’ll probably just frame it up real nice and put it on my wall. Until we win a Super Bowl or I can get together enough money to put it on a rocket ship and shoot it to outer space because I don’t think it belongs on this planet anymore.”

In case you need a reminder of what the incident looked like, or if you had a rough night and just need a laugh, here is the play in question:
