The 2015 Mustang May Not Have Put on Weight After All

The rumor of the 2015 Ford Mustang's weight gain may have stemmed from an estimation instead of tests.

Yesterday we found out the 2015 Ford Mustang could be coming in with a huge weight gain. This bit of information ran contrary to Ford boasting about a weight loss. But it appears that Ford tuner Steeda, the weight-gain whistleblower, did little more than guess.

A blog post from Steeda said the new Mustang added 200-300 pounds more than its predecessor, but a member of the Mustang6G forums claiming to work for Steeda says the company was just estimating. A photo of Steeda working on the new 'Stang has also been removed from the post (you can see it above), a move that could be trying to avoid giving the impression that the weight estimate was more than, you know, an estimate. Jalopnik followed up with Steeda to find out its official side of the story, but there hasn't been a response yet.

Road & Track is also reporting a weight gain, but from a different source. The "insider" says the GT Premium will come in 250 pounds heavier, models with a V6 or the EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder engine will gain 50-70 pounds, and the base GT will add 170.

At this point we don't know what to believe. Ford has yet to address the issue or release an official weight. In the meantime it's best to avoid conclusions until we know the new Mustang has hit the scales.
