Some people complain that the Mini Cooper has grown quite too big in recent years. Those people should avert their eyes.

Mini’s newest Five-Door variant – as you’ve surely guessed – adds an extra pair of doors onto the classic Mini shape. And with those extra doors comes a host of new growth from within. The wheelbase has been stretched by 72mm to account for rear passenger space, headroom increases by 4mm over the three-door version, and trunk space has been upped to 9.8 cubic feet. More room for you, your friends, and your stuff.

In Europe, the Mini Five-Door will offer four engines: two three-cylinder gas and diesel options, and two 2.0L gas and diesel four-cylinders. Mini has yet to officially release the Five-Door for the North American market, but we expect to see the standard 124-horsepower 1.5L three-cylinder and the Cooper S’s 189-horsepower 2.0L turbo.

Which would you rather buy? The Five-Door Mini or a Mini Countryman?
