If you like your Japanese hatchbacks with a touch of all-wheel drive, perhaps add the next-generation Toyota Prius to your wish list. That’s because, according to recent reports, four driven wheels could become an option on upcoming models.
In a recent interview with Automotive News, Koei Saga, senior managing officer in charge of powertrain development on the Prius, noted that “I think we will possibly do [all-wheel drive].” Saga didn’t provide any further details about how the system would work, but considering the 2015 Lexus NX 300h puts electric power to the rear axle, a similar setup would make sense.
