We all know what AMG stands for. NOt literally, of course, since German words are nine miles long and impossible to spell; what AMG stands for is "crazy and fast Mercedes." Maybach used to be a stand alone brand, but we're now hearing that it might be the ultra-luxe equivalent of AMG for select Mercedes models.

The S-Class Maybach will come first, and it will sit inbetween the upcoming $1 Million Pullman and the regular S-Class. We're also hearing that a GL-Class Maybach might also be in the cards. Maybach as a stand-alone brand crashed and burned hard, but this might just work. We think an S-Class Coupe Maybach would be one of the sexiest cars money could buy and a great answer to the Royce Wraith and Continental GT.
