Steve Ballmer May Be the New Owner of the Clippers, But Shelly Sterling Isn’t Going Anywhere

Steve Ballmer is in charge, but Shelly Sterling will still be part of the face of the Los Angeles Clippers.

According to ESPN’s Arash Markazi, Shelly Sterling will still have a “large and visible presence with the Clippers,” despite the official sale of the franchise to Steve Ballmer, which occurred earlier today. Ballmer’s $2 billion purchase of the Clips had been in limbo after Donald Sterling attempted to use the justice system to block the deal, but that ended when a judge ruled in Ballmer’s favor today. Markazi tweeted a list of rights and privileges Shelly Sterling will retain, including the title of “Clipper’s Number 1 Fan,” as well as an entitlement of up to 10 percent of the Clippers, or $200 million, to be set aside for a charitable foundation that Shelly will run.
