Alex Morgan, the future wife of many a U.S. soccer fan, will miss the rest of USWNT's World Cup qualifying matches after suffering a nasty ankle injury Thursday against Guatemala. Morgan went down in the 42nd minute after colliding in the air with Guatemalan defender as she chased down a loose ball. The defender fell directly on Morgan's ankle, completely bending it underneath her body as Morgan writhed on the ground in pain.

Somehow, Morgan was diagnosed with only an ankle sprain after getting an MRI, and will miss just 4-6 weeks. From U.S. Soccer

"We certainly feel for Alex and of course having her go down is a big loss to our team. But as I’ve often said, one of our strengths is depth and everyone on the roster is prepared to step up,” said U.S. head coach Ellis. “After talking with our medical staff and Alex, we all agreed that the best course of action for her is to head home to minimize travel and get into an environment where she can totally focus on recovery.”

The injured left ankle is the same one Morgan hurt last November in a game against Brazil that kept her out of action for four months. As the USWNT continues to attempt to qualify for the 2015 World Cup in Canada, we wish Morgan a speedy recovery.
