After the Nuggets beat the Pistons on Wednesday night by a score of 89-79, Denver forward Kenneth Faried had some not-so-nice things to say about Detroit forward Josh Smith. Specifically, he said that the Nuggets "let [Smith] keep shooting" during the game because they knew that Smith would shoot the Pistons right out of the contest.
Last night, Smith was asked about Faried's comments and, while he revealed that he doesn't usually "respond to nobody with dreadlocks who plays basketball," he called Faried a "clown" and then turned what was a relatively minor beef into an all-out war of words.
"In order to make those comments like that, you gotta be able to back it up and we'll see next time," Smith said. "He fears me. He's scared of me, so, of course, he'll talk about me in the paper. He won't do it to me in my face. If you have to hide behind a microphone or smartphone, so be it. I don't mind. Everybody's entitled to their own opinion. But do it when the game is being played and not after, when you run your mouth like that."
Smith then went on to compare Faried to e-thugs.
"It's a lot of social media," he said. "I'm an older guy. I'm not on social media, Twitter, Instagram. It's a lot of media thugs and Instagram gangstas. I would classify him in one of those categories."
Hmmm…How did we get here? This just went from Faried giving some very honest analysis on Smith's game against the Nuggets to Smith comparing Faried to guys who talk tough on social media. And unfortunately, we're going to have to wait a looooooong time to get any sort of resolution to this "beef," because the Nuggets and Pistons don't play again until February.
