Messi's goal in the 75th minute against Eibar was his 250th in La Liga play, leaving him just one short of Telmo Zarra's record of 251. He also assisted on another score on what was the 10-year anniversary of his debut with Barcelona.
Though he was denied the record twice on a few missed attempts in the later stages of the game, Messi will now have a chance to make history when Barcelona takes on Real Madrid next week.
