Michael Sam—without a doubt the most talked about practice squad player in history—is reportedly in contact with “about a half dozen NFL teams” about joining their practice squad, according to a CBS Sports report.

Sam had been waived by the Cowboys on October 21 after signing with their practice squad following a successful preseason with the St. Louis Rams. The report indicates that there is plenty of interest in Sam around the league, and that he would likely receive a “future” contract guaranteeing him an invitation to training camp next year.

It will be another month or so until those contracts are allowed, so it might be a little bit before somebody picks up Sam. However, it does seem likely that he’ll get another shot at making an NFL roster next season and becoming the first openly gay, active NFL player.
