The UFC 180 will see fighters Hunt vs. Werdum on November 15 for the Championship.

Everything was set. The UFC champs were chomping at the bit. It was only a matter of weeks until Cain Velasquez and Fabricio Werdum squared off to decide who would win the UFC Heavyweight Championship of the World.

But then, fate intervened.

With merely three weeks to go until the big match, Velasquez tore his meniscus. He could no longer fight. He was just too injured.

But the fight will go on. This is the UFC. The fight always goes on.

Stepping into the Octagon in Cain Velasquez’s stead is No. 4 ranked Mark Hunt, who will take on the No. 1 ranked Werdum for the Interim Heavyweight Championship of the World. For those of you concerned that Hunt is overmatched, you clearly haven’t been watching him closely enough. Even though this native New Zealander is now 40 years old, the “Super Samoan”—who has been shedding excess weight for the match—recently knocked out Roy Nelson in less than two rounds. As for Werdum, he seems pretty unfazed by his change in opponent. The Jiu-Jitsu master has already knocked out the ferocious Travis Browne, and proven that he’s ready to take all comers.

Mark Hunt: You’re up.

(Word of advice? Stay off the mat, or this cat is likely to finish you off.)
