Gedion Zelalem is one step closer to officially joining the United States Men's Soccer Team. According to the Washington Post, Zelalem has become a U.S. citizen, making him eligible to compete with the USMNT going forward. Now, the 17-year-old will need to wait on FIFA's approval which shouldn't be a difficult hurdle to clear.

Even though the Arsenal midfielder played for the Germany U-15, U-16 and U-17 clubs, U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann has been working hard to convince Zelalem to come back and represent the country where he played youth soccer in the D.C. area from nine to 14 before joining the Gunners in 2013. It looks like Klinsmann's diligent efforts have paid off and in 2018, we will most likely see the fruits of his labor.
