Richard Sherman Says the Cardinals' Patrick Peterson Would Be Benched If He Played for the Seahawks

Richard Sherman believes Patrick Peterson isn't worthy of being a part of the Legion of Boom.

Tonight's game between the Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals doesn't just hold NFC West title implications, but it also features two of the best cornerbacks in the game with Richard Sherman and Patrick Peterson. However, Sherman does not see the latter point to be true.

When asked by Bob Costas of NBC’s Football Night in America if he would be checking out Peterson while on the sidelines, Sherman gave brutally honest assessment, saying:

"Not really,” Sherman told Costas.  “I really don’t care what happens in his game.  I’m concerned about what we’re doing, the win-loss category, and what the scoreboard looks like.  I think at the end of the day, the tape will speak for itself.  I don’t know if everybody’s compared on an even scale, and I don’t know if he should be mentioned with [the great cornerbacks in the league].  You give up eight touchdowns in a year; it’s hard to put you in that discussion.”

And if that wasn't crushing enough, Sherman put the nail in the coffin here.

“At any point, if I gave up that many touchdowns, I think I would be benched on our team,” Sherman said.  “We have a level of accountability and that’s what we strive for.  You can’t give up big plays like that and still play.”

With the Cardinals needing Peterson to come up big tonight against Russell Wilson and the 'Hawks receiving corps, the Arizona cornerback probably has enough motivation already heading into their Sunday night contest. This statement by the always outspoken Sherman will surely add more fuel to the fire.
