Who is Jusuf Nurkic? Until last night’s game against the Memphis Grizzlies, he was simply an anonymous, 20-year-old rookie for the Denver Nuggets who was starting to get some run over the last couple weeks thanks to his strong work in the paint. Last night, however, he became something more.

First, he got dunked all over by Vince Carter early in the second quarter on a vintage play from the 37-year-old. While that would be enough to shatter the confidence of most players, Nurkic is no shrinking violet. Indeed, he went right after All-Star center Marc Gasol, swatting his shot early in the third quarter then shooting the Spaniard a hilariously disgusted look of contempt.

The Nugs ended up thrashing the Grizzlies, and Nurkic’s improved play means we’re going to be seeing a lot more of him on the court going forward. Over his last three games, the big Bosnian is averaging 12.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 3.3 blocks in just 23.9 minutes.
