Billy Donovan could be headed from Florida to OKC

Ever since the Oklahoma City Thunder gave head coach Scott Brooks the ax, rumors have run rampant that Florida head coach Billy Donovan would finally take the leap from the college ranks to the NBA after getting cold feet eight years ago. You'll remember 2007, when Donovan accepted an offer to become the Orlando Magic's head coach, held a press conference, then freaked out and went back to Florida a day later.

This time, it appears as if the allure of coaching Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and the gang is just too strong of a pull. ESPN's Jeff Goodman is reporting that Donovan is ready to accept OKC's vacant head coaching position if it is offered to him, which many expect it will be.

While Goodman also notes that it could come down to whether his family wants to pick up and move to the middle of the country, let's be real. If Donovan wants the job, he's going to take it.

Now a case could be made that a college coach taking over a team dealing with Kevin Durant's impending free agency and a championship window that's rapidly closing might not be the best idea. But it appears as if OKC is rapidly closing in on their next head coach.
