When an athlete's star begins to diminish and his or her has a harder time getting out of bed in the morning (it's called "turning 30" for pros), retirement is near. And once an athlete hits that post-career-but-really-I-need-a-second-career stage of their lives, and they drop out of the public spotlight, appearances change. Middle age and a life away from peak fitness can catch up to some athletes faster than others in retirement—think about how big Charles Barkley got (and still is), but for others, slimming down and cutting that playing weight has lead to surprising transformations.
