Allen Iverson's free-spending ways have been well-documented in his post-NBA days. A player who used to buy an entirely new set of clothes wherever he went (he apparently didn't like luggage), Iverson's spending habits caught up to him in 2012, when it was reported his expenses totaled over $350,000 every month despite only making $65,000 monthly.
In a Sports Illustrated feature on Los Angeles Clippers forward Matt Barnes, the journeyman role player talked about how Iverson influenced him during his short stop with the 76ers in 2006. Already with his fourth NBA team in three years, Barnes was 26-years-old at the time, and says that “Allen was the first guy that showed me how NBA players spend money in strip clubs."
"That guy went. HARD," says Barnes. "He’d throw so much money, and this was when I was first in the league, that I used to take my foot and scoop the shit under my chair and either re-throw it or put some in my pocket. He’d throw $30,000, $40,000 every time we went. I’m like, ‘You realize what I can do with this money?’”
Lol OF COURSE Matt Barnes, NBA survivalist, was out here scooping up wads of bills on the low. It's too bad, because Iverson could really use that money right now. Until his $30 million Reebok trust fund is available to him in 2030, Barnes, who's made an estimated $19.1 million over his NBA career, will likely be living more lavishly than Iverson for the next 15 years.
