Roy Hibbert May Not Be Back With the Pacers Next Season

How big of a loss would it even be?

You won't get to slander Roy Hibbert's weak-ass playoffs presence because, you know, the Pacers aren't in the playoffs this year. The Nets barely clinched that eighth seed over them. But don't fret; next season brings new opportunities for struggle. However, it's possible Hibbert won't be with the Pacers next season.

President Larry Bird and coach Frank Vogel are trying to change up their team's style into something faster. And that's understandable since the system they have now aren't getting them a trip to the Finals anytime soon. They might not think Hibbert can hang. When asked if the change-up means Hibbert will be getting more minutes on the bench, Vogel simply said, "Yeah, potentially."

“We’ll have to see how it all plays out and what the roster ultimately looks like but there’s a possibility that Roy’s role will be diminished, if we’re trying to play faster and trying to play smaller,” Vogel said. “But a lot of stuff is going to happen this summer, we’ll see how the roster shapes out coming into next season.”

Bird doesn't sound like he knows if Hibbert is staying, either, but the  center has a player option for $15.5 million next year. You can't blame the Pacers if they do decide to let Hibbert go, though. It's not just about last year's playoffs; the 7' 2" Hibbert has been unimpressive for a while.
