On March 10, Darrelle Revis decided to come back to the New York Jets, the team he played his first six years with, signing a five-year, $70 million contract with $39 million guaranteed. By doing so, Revis left the New England Patriots, the team that helped him get his only Super Bowl title, after just one year. Now, even though the Jets and Patriots have a long-standing, bitter rivalry, Revis would probably take the high road when asked about all the talk surrounding Tom Brady and #DeflateGate, right? Think again.
In an interview with Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, Revis was anything but compassionate towards Brady's current situation or his former Pats teammates. "Everybody's blowing it up because it is Tom Brady," he said. "I understand that. But if (the NFL) feels he did the crime or he did something and they want to penalize them, then that's that. (The Patriots) have a history of doing stuff. You can't hide that.… Tom was there when they did that stuff in the past."
While Revis maintains that he is "unaware of any wrongdoing by Brady," he did point to the Patriots' history of rule-bending behavior. "New England's been doing stuff in the past and getting in trouble," the 29-year-old cornerback said. "When stuff repeatedly happens, then that's it."
It wasn't that long ago when Revis was donning the Pats colors and singing their praises after they helped him get the Lombardi Trophy. Now, they're back to being Enemy No. 1. What a difference a little more than two months makes.
