In 1998, Randy Moss was a rookie, out of Marshall, with the Minnesota Vikings when he befriended Kassi Spier, a little girl who battled leukemia throughout her childhood. Since their first meeting, Moss and Spier have maintained a lasting friendship with the former wide receiver visiting her in the hospital, as well as having the then-seven-year-old Kassi join him for lunch throughout Vikings' training camp in Mankato, Mn. over the summer.

Over the years, Spier has fought through some very tragic and difficult events, from her father dying in a car accident in 2004 to getting diagnosed with a brain tumor two years ago. But Kassi is a fighter. And on Friday, she graduated from Pelican Rapids High School.

It was a huge moment for Kassi and it was one that Moss couldn't miss. Even though she wasn't sure if he would attend, Randy not only made it the commencement ceremony in Pelican Rapids, Mn., he handed the high school diploma to her. “She’s had many struggles in her life, and he’s been there for her,” Pelican Rapids Public School District Superintendent Deb Wanek told INFORUM. “He told her he’d be at her high school graduation.”
