Landon Donovan Directs Subtweet of the Century at Jürgen Klinsmann, Then Tries to Deny Doing It

Landon Donovandidn't make the World Cup roster for the U.S. Men's National Team last year. USMNT head coach Jürgen Klinsmann decided to leave Donovan off the team, even though he's one of the most important players in USMNT history. It didn't sit well with some fans—and Donovan himself spent part of 2014 throwing some shade in Klinsmann's direction.

It looks like he's still doing it, too. Last night, after the U.S. Women's National Team advanced to the 2015 World Cup final, Donovan sent out a tweet praising Abby Wambach for adding enthusiasm and a veteran presence to the U.S. team despite not playing much. And in doing so, it also seemed like he sent an excellent subtweet in Klinsmann's direction:

That prompted former soccer star Alexi Lalas to throw a little shade of his own:

And Donovan responded to Lalas with this:

But after seeing the response that his original tweet received, Donovan sent out this tweet this morning and tried to distance himself from any perceived beef with Klinsmann:
