In July, some might say that it's too early to be throwing punches aboard an Ohio ferry because of your allegiances to a college football team.

Yes, some might say that, but apparently not Ian Schuster and Ashley Artiaga, a pair of Oregonian sailors-turned-alleged brawlers who were arrested and charged with assault early Sunday morning after their alleged confrontation with another couple on a Port Clinton, Ohio Jet Express ferry.

According to a local report, an argument broke out between Schuster, Artiaga, and another couple about the Michigan-Ohio State football rivalry. It's unclear whether Schuster and Artiaga root for the Buckeyes or the Wolverines, but either way, this was not a good look for college football's most storied match-up. The season hasn't even started yet, people!

The report also received a firsthand account from a fellow passenger:

"They were arguing, cursing at each other,” says Ben Freeman, a witness from Cincinnati who was in town for a fishing trip. “As the argument went on, the Michigan fan's girlfriend stood up, pulled the hair of the Ohio State's fan's girlfriend … the wife, actually. He tried to defend his wife by shoving the Michigan fan's girlfriend. The Michigan fan stood up and tried to defend his girlfriend. And after that they mutually started to fist fight and swing on each other. It was crazy.”

Given the fight's late start (the arrests took place around 1:42 a.m.), alcohol is also suspected to have a played a role in the confrontation. Surprise, surprise.
