Bryce Harper was named National League MVP on Thursday, after completing a stellar statistical season individually where he batted .330 with 42 home runs and 99 RBI. He also led the NL in on-base percentage, slugging, OPS, OPS+, and (oh yeah) was choked by his team's closer.
But none of that makes him an expert in the Internet's culture.
Speaking with Scott Van Pelt on ESPN's SportsCenter, Harper was asked a silly question about whether he'd prefer to shave his head or never have another double-digit home run season again.
"I don't want to answer that right now because I know how many memes are going to be out there with me with a bald head," Harper said.
Only he didn't pronounce meme "meem."
Ah, the irony. While Harper was trying to avoid one kind of meme, he'll now almost certainly find himself in all kinds of "may-mays" after this unfortunate, nationally-televised remark.
