A new era is coming to Virginia Tech next season. Frank Beamer, who's been the Hokies' head coach since 1987, is retiring at the end of the year. The Hokies webpage posted the news along with a statement from Beamer himself.
“I was going to wait until the end of the season to make this announcement, but I’ve always believed in being open and honest with my players and coaches," he said. "I know Hokie Nation will continue to give our players and our coaches their full support in these last three games, and hopefully through a bowl game."
Beamer will also talk about the decision in a press conference tomorrow.
This 4-5 season doesn't at all speak to Beamer's success with the Hokies. He's lead them to 22 straight bowl games, four ACC titles, and three Big East championships. Beamer also won the 1999 Sugar Bowl with a young Michael Vick under center.
