Chances are you've seen a Wrangler commercial or two featuring Brett Favre. Or maybe you've read about the huge farm he's retired to back in his native Mississippi. Either way, you know he's a country boy who enjoys the great outdoors.

So when CBSSports.com dropped an oral history of the gunslinging quarterback today, featuring snippets from former teammates and coaches, it should have come as no surprise that there was a story or two about Favre and Mother Nature. Mark Brunell provided the perfect anecdote, hilariously—or horrifyingly, depending on your views—recalling a story Favre told him about the time as a kid he crossed paths with a deer on someone else's property.

As Brunell tells it, Favre was out with a friend, or some pals, and was totting a .22 caliber rifle when they spotted the wild animal.

"After a couple of shots ring off, they realize somebody could discover them and and find out they're trespassing. They're frantic, they don't know what to do, and they've got this deer and it's flopping all over the woods. So, they figured out the only way to kill this deer without shooting at it is drown it. So they drag it over to a puddle, a stream, a small pond, I don't know what it was, but they basically held this deer underwater until the bubbles stopped coming out of its nose. Listen, I'll probably get in trouble for telling this story, but it's one of the funniest stories I've ever heard. And the way he told the story, we were crying laughing. It was gut-ache type laughing."

PETA outrage to follow.
