Adam Silver might be in favor of legalizing sports gambling one day, but that doesn’t mean he wants to see NBA players taking part in making wagers of any kind.
Prior to the start of the 2015-16 NBA season, John Wall announced that he was prepared to give Wizards assistant coach Howard Eisley $100 for every game that he racked up more than two turnovers. That means that, to date, he would owe Eisley more than $2500. But when he was asked about the arrangement today, he revealed that the NBA actually told him he wasn’t allowed to pay Eisley a long time ago.
“They squashed that early in the season,” he said. “They called us. I guess it’s betting. [They said] it’s league protocol.”
Not to worry, though. Wall is still making good on his promise to pay Eisley. He’s just doing it with food instead of money.
“I just take him to dinner sometimes,” he said.
Which is kind of the same thing, but…whatever.
