UPDATE 2:

TMZ Sports is now reporting that a police department did respond to a crash similar to the one Darius Fleming described last week.

UPDATE:

Uh oh. We don't know what to make of this just yet, but TMZ Sports has looked into Darius Fleming's story, and it seems as though there is no record of a car crash taking place in the location that he mentioned while speaking with reporters. They have reached out to Fleming and his agent but haven't received a response yet.

See original story below.

New England Patriots linebacker Darius Fleming saved a woman after witnessing a three-car accident near Gillette Stadium last Thursday. Once he noticed smoke coming from the car, he kicked the window out and suffered a cut on his leg that required 22 stitches.

And then, somewhat incredibly, he played in his team's playoff win over the Chiefs just two days later.

“She was attempting to kick the window out but she was a small lady,” said Fleming, via The Boston Globe. “I didn’t panic, but I was just like, ‘I got to get her out.’ I tried to break (the window) with my elbow, but that didn’t work, so I just started kicking the window. Eventually it broke, pulled her out, made sure she was OK, and I looked at my leg and I noticed it was bleeding pretty bad.”

Patriots defensive captain Devin McCourty said that Fleming initially didn't say much about it. But once the team heard the news, they demanded a full account.

“He explained it was very simple: He saw a woman’s car that looked like it was smoking, and he just jumped out of his car," McCourty said, via Pro Football Talk. "He’ll admit there was probably an easier solution, but I think it was nice and dramatic — kicked the window in and pulled her out. We got the hero’s speech. He gave us his account of what happened and a lot of cheers went out."

Last year around this time, Vince Wilfork rescued a woman from an overturned vehicle after the Patriots beat the Colts in the AFC Championship. And of course, Jamie Foxxmade headlines recently by rescuing a man from a burning car following an accident that took place just outside his house.
