Recently, New York Jets wide receiver held an impromptu Q&A on Twitter where he revealed the best cornerback he's faced not named Darrelle Revis (Champ Bailey), where he sees himself in a few years (as the offensive coordinator of a high school football team), and more. And then, someone asked if New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick haunts his dreams. Marshall didn't just say no, he took it a step further.
This had us thinking, was Marshall just bragging or could he possibly be correct? Well, it depends.
Marshall has played the Patriots 10 times as a member of the Denver Broncos (3), Miami Dolphins (4), Chicago Bears (1) and New York Jets (2). In those games, his team has gone 3-7. Not really ownership material, right?
How about individually? Aside from his first matchup against the Pats where Marshall played in his second career game and received just one target, here's a breakdown of his other games.
- 2008: 6 catches - 77 receiving yards - 0 TDs
- 2009: 8 catches - 64 receiving yards - 2 touchdowns
- 2010: 5 catches - 50 receiving yards
- 2010: 5 catches - 97 receiving yards
- 2011: 7 catches - 139 receiving yards
- 2011: 6 catches - 143 receiving yards - 1 touchdown
- 2014: 3 catches - 35 receiving yards
- 2015: 4 catches - 67 receiving yards
- 2015: 8 catches - 115 receiving yards - 2 touchdowns
So, if Belichick were to hypothetically throw the challenge flag on this claim by the Jets star wideout, we would conclude that Marshall doesn't "own" the Patriots head coach. That is, unless, we're on our Mike Carey and in that case, Marshall does own Belichick.
