No surprise here.

Remember when Kevin Durant decided that he was going to leave the University of Texas and declare for the NBA Draft back in 2007? He waited until about a week after the NCAA Tournament ended and sounded like he had put a lot of thought into his decision. Even though going pro was pretty much a no-brainer for him, he wasn’t in any hurry to declare for the draft, and at the time, he even said that he was going to finish out the school year at Texas.

Ben Simmons is taking a much different approach. He’s projected to be the No. 1 pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, so he’s not even going to wait for the NCAA Tournament to finish to declare his intention to go pro. His LSU team missed out on making the tournament after they got blown out by Texas A&M in the SEC Tournament, so he just told ESPN that he plans on hiring an agent and declaring for the NBA Draft very soon.

“I’m making it official,” he said last night.

Simmons averaged 19.2 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game during one season at LSU. Stay tuned to see which agent he hires and how he decides to go about making his official declaration for the draft.
