John Daly Once Made a $150,000 Bet That He Would Live to See 50

What was he thinking?!

Somehow, against all odds, golf legend John Daly turned 50 today. We're sure he'll keep whatever celebration he has in mind for it low key.

The fact that he's lived this long is a true testament to completely ignoring your doctor, with a fellow golfer having so much faith that he would die young that he bet a large chunk of dough Daly couldn't make it to half a century:

As the story goes, PGA golfer Fuzzy Zoeller and Daly were playing a few years ago at Augusta National during the lead up to The Masters. As Daly tells it:

"I think it was Tuesday morning and we played nine holes and went to (a restaurant) and had some lunch. Next thing I know, we were in the same clothes playing Wednesday at 7:30 in the morning and the par-3 tournament. We stayed through the whole nine (holes), drinking, having a good time and eating. 'Fuzzy said, 'I got 150 grand you’re never going to make it to 50.’”

Unfortunately, the two never shook on the deal. And so Daly, the cool guy that he seems to be, won't make Zoeller pony up. Instead, he says, "I’ll just have him give me a free bottle of his vodka. That’s about it.”

In fairness to Zoeller, it seemed like a very safe bet.
