Wizards fans got some potentially great news late yesterday when their team hired former Thunder head coach Scott Brooks to be their new head coach. At the time, the thought was that having Brooks on the sidelines might make Kevin Durant more inclined to sign with the Wizards this summer when he becomes a free agent.

But after practice today, KD shot down that line of thinking by saying that he doesn’t buy into theories about his future:

And as if that wasn’t bad enough for Wizards fans, The Vertical reporter Chris Mannix is also reporting that KD “isn’t all that keen” on going home and playing in DC with the Wizards next season. According to sources, his road trip to Washington D.C. this season was stressful, and he doesn’t like the idea of playing there all the time. Here’s a portion of Mannix’s report:

Durant isn't bound for Washington, friends say, because … it's Washington, it's home, and, like so many athletes, Durant isn't all that keen on returning to play in the city in which he grew up. Friends, family – some real, some claiming to be – all come out of the woodwork in those situations, and Durant, who has tightened his inner circle considerably in recent years, isn't interested in dealing with them. His lone trip to D.C. this season was stressful, league sources told The Vertical, reinforcing to friends that wherever Durant signs next summer, Washington won't be it.

Of course, KD has gone on the record in the past and told us not to buy into any reports like this, so maybe we shouldn't believe it. But hey, we’ve spent the last two years speculating about KD’s future, so why stop now?!
