The hype surrounding Andrew Luck’s new contract has been building for quite some time. When Cam Newton inked a new 5-year, $103.8 million deal last June, the first question most people asked was “Can you imagine how much money the Colts are going to give Luck now?!” Even though he hasn’t won a Super Bowl—or even been to a Super Bowl—yet, the thought is that Luck is going to be one of the best QBs in the league for years to come.

The Colts are banking on Luck's future success and signed him to a massive contract extension on Wednesday. Colts owner Jim Irsay announced that his team has signed Luck to an extension that will extend through 2021:

According to The MMQB reporter Albert Breer, Luck’s contract extension makes him the highest-paid player in league history:

NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport broke down the financials of the deal:

On his 5-year extension, #Colts QB Andrew Luck is now the highest paid player in the NFL, source said. Puts him over Joe Flacco's $22.1M.

And if all goes according to plan, Luck might be able to sign another huge deal before the end of his career:

Worth mentioning -- Luck's contract is up a year after the current CBA expires, and a year before the current TV deals are done.
