Kyle O'Quinn is the latest NBA player to be hit with a lawsuit stemming from an alleged assault on a woman. This isn't from a domestic violence case. Rather, it's from the plaintiff claiming that she was brutally beaten up by the Knicks power forward and his girlfriend.

According to the New York Daily News,  a 22-year-old named Shakaira Elaine Elie attended a day party with her friends at Trinity Place Bar and Restaurant in Manhattan on May 22. The lawsuit, filed in Brooklyn Supreme Court, detailed that Elie noticed a "very tall man staring at her." Elie's attorney Marion Conde da Silveira stated that she had no knowledge that it was the 6-foot-10 O'Quinn of the Knicks.

Also in the documents, O’Quinn, 26, was with another woman at the restaurant who was believed to be his girlfriend. After O'Quinn had supposedly made a flirtatious eye contact attempt to get Elie's attention,  who also allegedly noticed him doing so.

As Elie waited outside for a ride of the restaurant when the party began to die down, O'Quinn left the party with his entourage including his girlfriend. Elie claims in her account that she was approached by O'Quinn but she wasn’t interested. Yet the jealously streak came over O'Quinn's girlfriend and attacked Elie.

O'Quinn allegedly didn't try to break up the fight—he joined in the scuffle to beat down Elie, and slammed her into the ground twice. She was treated at a hospital for bruises to her face, head, neck, ribs, and elbow.

Elie and her friend did an online search to determine the identity of O'Quinn, found his photograph, and contacted the NYPD two days later.

The case is currently under investigation, and Elie is also suing the restaurant for failing to have proper security.

Elie's attorney Conde da Silveira gave this statement about O'Quinn: "We find it extremely disturbing that a person with his fame, that young people look up to, would not prevent a fight from happening, but instead would brutally attack, choke and slam her to the ground, not once, but twice."

O'Quinn, a 2012 second-round pick, joined the Knicks in a sign-and-trade deal with the Magic in July 2015. He has a four-year contract worth $16 million. He averaged 4.8 points and 3.8 rebounds a game for the Knicks.

Complex reached out to the Knicks front office for a statement about the case, and replied they are aware of the matter but have no comment at this time.
