UPDATE 6/17/16: The formal charges against Darren Collison have been announced: two misdemeanors, one count of domestic violence causing injury and one count of domestic battery of a spouse. The Placer County District Attorney’s Office says the latter was “a closely related, but separate incident occurring on the same evening.”

Collison was arrested in Granite Bay, Calif. on Memorial Day for one count of domestic violence. Police received a call from a woman early May 30 at 1 a.m. to report she had been assaulted by Collison. To make matters worse for himself, he was also charged with two misdemeanor bench warrants for driving with a revoked license after the incident occurred.
The 28-year-old Collison was booked under California Penal Code 273.5 and released the Placer County Sheriff's Office released this statement on their Facebook page about his arrest.
He is scheduled for a return to court on July. If found guilty, he faces up two to four years in a state prison, up to one year in a county jail, a $6,000-fine, or a combination of a fine and jail time.
The Kings released the following statement about Collison's arrest: "We've been made aware of the situation. The Sacramento Kings condemn violence of any kind. We are gathering additional information and once all facts are known we will take appropriate steps."
The seven-year veteran averaged 14 points, 4.3 assists and 1 steal per game—with a 48.6 percent field goal percentage and 40.1 percent from three-point range—in 74 games played for his second season with the team. Collison has another year to play under his current contract with the Kings. He signed a three-year, $16 million deal with the Kings during the summer 2014, leaving him to be a unrestricted free agency in 2017. Collison has played for five teams during his NBA career including the Hornets, Pacers, Mavericks, Clippers and Kings.
