Seahawks rookie quarterback and TCU alum Trevone Boykin has been formally charged for allegedly striking a police officer in the face last December. According to the Seattle Times, Boykin was handed one count of misdemeanor assault, and his arraignment date is scheduled for August 1, the third day of Seahawks training camp. The assault case is considered a third-degree felony, and he faces up to 10 years in prison for the charge.

Just days prior to the Alamo Bowl, on New Year's Eve, the two-time Heisman nominee got into a bar fight in San Antonio, where the game was scheduled to take place. Surveillance video of the incident shows Boykin being physically removed by the bar's staff members and refusing to restrain himself on the way out. Boykin then allegedly punched an officer who came to the scene and caused facial injures. As a senior quarterback at the time of the incident, he was forced to sit out the TCU vs. Oregon Alamo Bowl game, thus ending his college career.

Boykin's agent Drew Pittman said in a statement to the Seattle Times: "Some of the facts of today’s TMZ report are incorrect. Trevone has already agreed to terms with the authorities on a lesser charge. He has been accountable and remorseful from the beginning. Trevone is looking forward to training camp starting July 30th and to competing for a roster spot."

In a police report obtained by ESPN, Boykin was said to have been "very aggressive and was being held back by the group that he was with. Members of his group stated they would get him back to the hotel they were staying at." San Antonio Police Chief William McManus added, "We don't know if he was swinging at the officer or somebody behind him. In any event, the officer was struck in the face and suffered injuries."

"I am truly remorseful for what happened," Boykin told Fox Sports in February. "I devastated not only myself, but the city of Fort Worth and the last name Boykin that I wear with pride. I wear TCU with pride. When that happened to me, I try to move forward and be positive about it and show that I am remorseful for it, and show that I have learned from it. And, that it won't happen again."
