Buccaneers rookie offensive lineman Dominique Robertson was shot twice in the leg in Loma Linda, Calif. very early last Thursday morning, and local police are still struggling to figure out exactly what led up to the mysterious shooting.

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, Robertson, 22, reported the shooting at around 3:30 a.m. on Thursday immediately after it happened. He was treated at the Loma Linda University Medical Center after suffering injuries to his back, buttocks, and leg and released Friday. But a short time after being released on Friday at approximately 6 p.m., he was transported to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department offices where he was questioned about the incident, and he was unable to provide many details about who may have shot him. His attorney Zulu Ali claims Robertson was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, but several people who live near where the shooting reportedly took place have told police that they did not hear a shooting or a disturbance on Thursday morning. So police are continuing to investigate the incident at this time.

Ali is also calling for an investigation into the way his client was treated while being questioned. He spoke with ESPN.com and said that Robertson was denied the right to an attorney during his questioning. He also told ESPN.com that he believes the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department should have led the investigation from the beginning, not the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, since the shooting took place in their jurisdiction.

“I’ve been asking to speak with an attorney. I’ve been asking to speak with my family. They won’t allow me to do either,” Ali said Robertson told him. “They won’t give me any water. As a matter of fact, I had a water, and they took it away from me. I'm telling them that I'm not feeling well and that I want my medication. They won’t give me my medication.”

The Buccaneers have since released a brief statement about Robertson's condition:

"We are aware of the reports concerning Dominique Robertson. We can confirm that he has been released from the hospital and is at home resting. We are in the process of gathering more information, but our primary concern is for Dominique's health and well-being."

Police have not been able to identify the person who shot Robertson as of yet.

Robertson was signed by the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent in May after playing for West Georgia in 2015.
