This is a pitcher's biggest nightmare. Taking a full-speed line drive base hit to the head. That stuff causes CTE-like concussions, and it's brave for all pitchers who go out there and withstand multiple innings of catching a fast one straight on. That's exactly what occurred for Pirates pitcher Jameson Taillon against the Brewers on Tuesday night at PNC Park.

At the top of the second inning, Milwaukee third baseman Hernan Perez was up to bat and smacked a line drive base hit that caromed off the dome of Taillon, who immediately went down. You could hear the collective, loud "oooh" in the crowd who witnessed the horror that could have deeply cracked his skull like MMA fighter Evangelista "Cyborg" Santos last Saturday.

But after several minutes of immediate care and evaluations from the team's trainers, Taillon manned up and amazingly pitched for an additional four more innings of the game. It was Taillon's first start since he was placed on the disabled list for fatigue in his right shoulder. Needless to say, this was not a good thing to come back to. Coming into this start for his Tuesday night game against the Brewers, he had a 2–1 record and 3.86 ERA in five starts. He also had another at-bat later in the game, with two altogether.

The Pirates would go on to win the game 3-2, and Taillon will continue to be checked for his status going into their next game Wednesday against the Brewers at home in Pittsburgh. Let's just hope he doesn't have a blood clot in his brain right now, though.
